What is Skin?
Skin is the largest organ of human body and one of the most complicated too. It is made up of 3 layers: Epidermis, Dermis and Subcutaneous fat layer known as hypodermis. With multiple layers of tissues functioning differently, the skin provides body with a multi-layered protective barrier. The skin also constantly reinvents itself regenerating the outer layer every month making it one of the most unique of all organs. With effective products and proper care, our skin can be nourished, protected and even restored from the already caused harm.
What is Pigmentation?
Pigmentation refers to the colouring of the skin. Skin pigmentation disorders cause changes to the colour of your skin. Melanin is made by cells in skin and pigment is responsible for your skin’s colour. Hyperpigmentation is a condition that causes your skin to darken. Types of hyperpigmentation include age spots, melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
OA Hydroxytyrosol LD is an encapsulated Olive super anti-oxidant active with significant nutrients that fights free radicals, protects the cell structure and slows the skin aging process.
Hydroxytyrosol enhances the cellular antioxidant activity and soothes and repairs damages skin cells.
The dermocosmetic use of hydroxytyrosol is to inhibit the synthesis of melanin and to lighten and brighten pigmented skin.
Research has shown that hydroxytyrosol has anti-inflammatory effect and delays cecullar senescence of human dermal fibroblasts.
Lime pearl is a natural source of AHA extracted from the native Australian caviar lime, specially designed to stimulate skin desquamation with an innovative action involving the TRPV3 channel.
Lime pearl gently exfoliates the skin by penetrating into the keratinocytes and creating an intercellular acidification.
Lime pearl promotes skin exfoliation and remove buildup to reveal a renewed complexion. Caviar lime lightens and brightens the skin, keeping it soft, elastic and healthy.
ß-White is a TGF-ß biomimetic peptide. β-White decreases melanin synthesis with higher activity than Arbutin and Vitamin C, two well-known skin whitening agents.
ß-White gives optimum and significant whitening effect by decreasing both constitutive and facultative pigmentation.
β-White is a skin lightening active, which helps to give a progressive brightening effect for a more clear and evened skin complexion.
β-White decreases critical enzymes involved in pigmentation for optimal whitening efficacy.
Hydroxytyrosol is an Olive active, which helps to prevent cellular and structural disruption, desquamation, and dehydration of skin.
Hydroxytyrosol protects against environmental and internal aggressors. It also helps to lighten the dark spots.
A caviar lime extract, Lime Pearl is a natural source of AHA that helps to smoothen brighten and evening skin complex.
It helps in gentle exfoliation of dead skin cells and brings out fresher looking skin.
Niacinamide is a form of Vitamin-B3, a proven formulation for all sorts of pigmentation issues ranging from dark spots and discolorations to patches, scars, and melasma. It works by inhibiting melanosome transfer from melanocytes to keratinocytes. It treats hyperpigmentation by promoting the production of ceramides and elastin. Also, it helps regulate sebum production, reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL), reduce fine lines, fade age spots and hyperpigmentation, and brighten the complexion.
Tyrostat™ 09 is a potent strong inhibitor of tyrosinase enzymatic activity, one of the main enzymes involved in the pigmentation process. It has higher activity than arbutin, turmeric, and hydroquinone and with no unwanted side effects. Tyrostat™ safely reduces skin pigmentation and erythema by limiting both melanin production and skin reddening for an even skin complexion. Also, it effectively reduces tanning and age spots

• What is hyperpigmentation?
Hyperpigmentation is when your skin colour is darker than usual. This happens when more melanin is produced by melanocytes due to certain triggering factors. Skin darkening may also be caused by the deposition of endogenous or exogenous pigments, such as hemosiderin iron or heavy metals in the dermis.
• What are the causes of common types of hyperpigmentation?
Most hyperpigmentation is triggered or worsened by UV rays, dry skin or damaged skin barrier. Melasma is very common among females who are above 40 years of age, lesser found in men. Classically, melasma appears as a big brown patch, with an irregular border and typically found at symmetrical areas on the face. Whereas solar lentigines and ephelider, they can be found on skin that is exposed to UV rays. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is usually diagnosed based on the history of trauma or injury, for example, post-acne scar.
• What causes pigmentation?
It may be caused by the following factors:
• Sun damage caused by long-term overexposure to UVA and UVB rays
• Hormones
• Vitamin deficiencies
• Medication that causes sensitivity to sunlight
• Ageing
• Can we remove pigmentation permanently?
Contrary to what many people think, freckles, melasma and dark spots don’t usually resolve by themselves. In fact, in about 9-% of the cases, treatment is necessary to remove pigmentation. The cream would help lighten them but it is a long-term process.
