Caffeine
When used in skin care, caffeine reduces blood flow to the skin and makes it look brighter and tighter, “It’s often seen as an anti-aging or wrinkle-smoothing ingredient in face care, eye care, and even body care.”
The key to making skin-care products work is proper formulation. In particular, when the right amount of caffeine is used, it can be an effective ingredient to freshen up your skin, eliminate dark under-eye circles, and reduce puffiness in your face.
Features
- Caffeine improves the microcirculation of the blood vessels thereby clearing the excess accumulated fluid from the tissues. This property also helps in clearing the fat.
- Hence caffeine is used to treat the under-eye puffiness provided they are due to accumulation of fluid and not because of the loss of fat from the under-eye tissue.
- Caffeine affects the UV-damaged cells of human skin causing cellular divisions and apoptosis (controlled killing) before they begin to transform into cancer cells. It has been shown to have apoptotic action on squamous cell carcinoma and other skin tumors.
- Caffeine, because of its antioxidant properties and its ability to prevent damage induced by UVB rays to skin cells and has a potential implication in inhibiting sun-induced skin cancers eg: Basal cell carcinoma, and melanoma.
